After a grueling application process in which 35 states as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico competed for federal money, the U.S. Department of Education today announced the winners of the Race to the Top-Early Learning Challenge. The nine recipients of grants ranging from $50 million to $100 million are California, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island, and Washington.
