This serves as a reminder of previous correspondence regarding the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) implementing new federal crib standards. This goes into effect On December 28th 2012; on this date any full sized and non-full sized cribs used by all licensed child care facilities must meet new and improved safety standards. Manufacturers were required to meet the new standards on June 28th 2011.For cribs manufactured before June 28th2011, required verification includes: • Certificate of compliance, children’s product certificate, or certificate of conformity OR • Laboratory testing resultsFor cribs manufactured on or after June 28th 2011, required verification includes: • Crib tracking label with date of manufacture on or after June 28, 2011 (this label is attached to the crib) OR • Registration cards verifying model, manufacture, and date of manufacture on or after June 28, 2011 (these cards are supplied with purchase of the crib and are usually located with the instructions)*If a facility fails to meet the new federal crib regulations, a non-compliance will be documented concerning this requirement under facility hazards.* Further information can be found on the CPSC website at http://www.cpsc.gov/info/cribs/index.html .Before purchasing replacement cribs, we recommend you continue to monitor this website for the most current information. It is possible CPSC will monitor compliance in facilities immediately after the December 28, 2012 effective date.
