Licensing of Child Care Providers

A state child care license has many advantages for a child care provider. A license is required if you provide care for more than fifteen hours per week (except for a few exemptions). But being licensed also.

  • Puts you in a database, so you will show up on lists we give to parents looking for child care in your area
  • Makes you a "preferred provider" in most parent's eyes
  • Makes you eligible for low-cost training sessions
  • Makes you eligible for free, individual, onsite technical assistance from your nearest R&R
  • Entitles you to care for state-subsidized children, which means you can receive regular payments directly from the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
  • Makes you eligible to receive money from the federal Child and Adult Care Food Program. Licensed providers who join the program also receive nutrition training and have the opportunity to attend nutrition workshops.
  • Opens the door to Oklahoma's "Reaching for the Stars" program, which can improve your quality and your income.
  • Connects you with free resources and current information
  • Puts you in a better position to make a positive difference in a child's life

The Oklahoma Child Care Resource & Referral Association and its local agencies do not issue licenses. But we can link you to state and national web sites that contain licensing information. Plus, our eight resource & referral agencies can help you get started in the licensing process. We can also help you after you obtain your license by referring parents to you, and by offering you training, business advice and technical assistance.
